Blu-ray discs were first introduced to the market in 2006 and by 2008 they were the established new high-definition format for watching films in the home. In order to view the quality a Blu-ray disc has to offer you will need a Blu-ray player and HDTV such as Samsung LCD TVs , LED TVs or plasma TVs.
The reason the Blu-ray disc was developed was so there was a format that had enough space to hold the large amounts of data needed for a high definition film. For an HD feature-length film this is typically 50GB. A Blu-ray uses one or more layers to store this information. A dual layer disc can hold 50GB of data while a triple and quadruple layer have 100GB and 128GB of storage.
